Distribution of Coronavirus cases in Italy as of May 25, 2020, by age group

The spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Italy has hit mostly people over 50 years of age. In fact, as the chart shows, 70 percent of individuals infected with the virus was over 50 years old. Only one in four individuals who contracted the virus were between 19 and 50 years old.

Since the first case was detected at the end of January in Italy, Coronavirus has been spreading fast. As of May 26, 2020, the authorities reported 231 thousand cases in the country. The area mostly hit by the virus was the North, in particular the region of Lombardy.
