The coronavirus COVID-19, which originated in Wuhan, China, has spread worldwide. Across the different regions in the world, the number of cases is continuously increasing. Luzon-wide cases of coronavirus COVID-19

On March 17, 2020, mitigation methods were put into place by the government of the Philippines to prevent the virus from rapidly spreading. The whole island of Luzon was put under an enhanced community quarantine or a lockdown that would restrict the movement of the population, with exceptions, within all the regions of the island.

Among all the cities in Luzon Island, Quezon city had the highest number of coronavirus COVID-19 confirmed cases totaling 994 as of April 15, 2020. The city of San Juan, which is another urbanized city, confirmed at least 188 patients infected with the virus. These cities are situated within the National Capital Region, which is the second most densely populated region in the Philippines, with an area of only 619.57 square kilometers.

Economic impact

The impact of the coronavirus COVID-19 is predicted to affect the global economy, most notably the tourism sector. Within the Asia-Pacific region, approximately 48.7 million people are predicted to lose their jobs in the travel and tourism industry. In the Philippines, a maximum of around one million people would likely lose their jobs due to the enhanced community quarantine on the island of Luzon.
